Building ADUs in Southern California
In addition to purchasing hoarded houses, we also build a large number of ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units).
Often called “back homes” or “granny suites,” ADUs became widely permitted throughout Los Angeles and Orange County starting in 2017. Since then, they have become an important solution for adding much-needed housing in Southern California neighborhoods.
Our specialty is stick-built construction—homes built on-site, piece by piece, primarily using lumber. This method allows us to customize each project to the property and the homeowner’s needs. We build ADUs attached to the main house or garage, as well as fully detached units that provide maximum privacy.
Whenever possible, we also like to design separate outdoor areas for both the main home and the ADU. Creating distinct spaces helps each residence feel independent and comfortable.
The photos below show a detached ADU currently under construction in the city of Downey. As part of the city’s requirements, we are installing a dedicated walkway leading to the unit—something we would typically include anyway. The site is currently being prepared for a concrete walkway pour.
Once that is completed, we’ll be adding shrubs and trees to create a natural green privacy barrier between the main house and the ADU, giving both spaces a more private and landscaped feel.
